- Why are you looking to rehome this pet?
- I’m looking to rehome Comet because I want him to have the best quality of life possible. He’s an active dog who really thrives on regular exercise, space, and stimulation, and I feel that my current living situation in London isn’t allowing me to meet those needs fully. I’ve always tried to include him in everything I do and take him wherever I can. However, he does suffer from travel sickness, which makes this quite difficult and limits our ability to go places together comfortably. While it is possible with planning and management, it does add a level of restriction that impacts both him and our 3 other dogs. This hasn’t been an easy decision at all. It’s coming from a place of wanting what’s best for him. He would do best in a home where he can get plenty of exercise, more outdoor space, and a lifestyle that suits his needs without these limitations. I would really like to get to know the people who may take him on, so I can feel confident he is going to the right home. I am happy to support the process fully and help make the transition as smooth as possible. At the same time, I’m also here if things don’t work out or if anything needs to be discussed further, as I want to make sure he ends up in the right situation for him. He is a lovely dog with so much to give, and I want to make sure he ends up in a home that can truly match his energy and give him the life he deserves.

Description
Comet was rescued from a shelter in China around two and a half years ago and came to join his brother, who was already here with me. He had spent around the first three years of his life in a shelter, so when he first arrived he needed quite a long time to decompress. He was very shy and introverted in the beginning, to the point where even putting a harness on him and walking on a lead was difficult, and he mostly kept to himself. Over the last couple of years, he has come such a long way. He’s really grown in confidence and is now an affectionate, gentle dog. He loves to come and cuddle on the sofa, when invited. He’s not overly needy or in your face, and is quite happy doing his own thing as well. He currently lives with 3 other dogs, a cat and a 7 year old child. He absolutely loves his walks and gets really excited when the harness comes out. When he has the chance to run off lead, he’s so fast and you can see how much he enjoys it. This is one of the reasons I feel he would really benefit from a home with more open space or access to quieter walking areas, as where I live it can be quite busy and limiting. At home, he’s playful and gets on really well with his brother, and they spend a lot of time playing together. With food, he’s more of a grazer and not particularly greedy, but does enjoy his home cooked meals and meaty chew sticks :) Out on walks, he can get quite stimulated by other dogs. If another dog runs, he may chase, which can be a bit intimidating, so I tend to be cautious and keep him on the lead in busier areas. His recall is there, but it does need some more work, especially with distractions. I’ve noticed he is generally calmer and more responsive when he’s on his own, without his brother, as his brother can sometimes instigate the behaviour. Comet can struggle with car travel and can become quite nauseous, even on shorter journeys. I’ve spent time trying to build this up gradually and have tried different approaches, but it’s been quite inconsistent. I believe it is related to both a combination of anxiety and motion sickness, as I have treated both individually and he has still had car sickness. This may have been related to his long journey from China. We do go on yearly trips to Devon and he is medicated for the journey there and back. That being said he absolutely loves loves loves running on the beach. Because of this, I do feel he would be best suited to a home where he has easy access to good walking areas without needing regular car travel, such as somewhere with open space nearby. Alternatively, an active home where he can get plenty of exercise locally, or even go out on runs, would also suit him really well. Comet is a really lovely, easy dog to live with, and he’s doing well as he is. The decision to rehome him isn’t because he isn’t coping, but because I feel he would truly thrive in an environment that can offer him more space, freedom, and daily exercise.
